From the mouths of babes

My friend, Alyssa, who just had a baby sent me this forward in an e-mail and I thought I'd share it with you guys. What's happened to me? Where's the tough rocker chick I used to be?

What Love means to a 4-8 year old . . ..

Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is so worth it. Touching words
from the mouth of babes.
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8
year-olds, 'What does love mean?'

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.
See what you think.

'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't
bend over and paint her toenails anymore.
So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even
when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.'
Rebecca- age 8

'When someone loves you, the way they
say your name is different.
You just know that your name is
safe in their mouth.'
Billy - age 4

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on
shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'

Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your
French fries without making them give you any of theirs.'
Chrissy - age 6

'Love is what makes you smile
when you're tired.'
Terri - age 4

'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a
sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.'
Danny - age 7

'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of
kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They
look gross when they kiss'
Emily - age 8
'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas
if you stop opening presents and listen.'
Bobby - age 7
(Wow!)

'If you want to learn to love better, you
should start with a friend who you hate,'
Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more
Nikka's on this planet)

'Love is when you tell a guy you like his
shirt, then he wears it everyday.'
Noelle - age 7
'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are
still friends even after they know each other so well.'
Tommy - age 6

'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at
all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I
wasn't scared anymore.'
Cindy - age 8

'My mommy loves me more than anybody
You don't see anyone else kissing
me to sleep at night.'
Clare - age 6

'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the
best piece of chicken.'
Elaine-age 5

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and
still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.'
Chris - age 7

'Love is when your puppy licks your face even
after you left him alone all day.'
Mary Ann - age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all
her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.'
Lauren - age 4

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and
little stars come out of you.' (what an image)
Karen - age 7

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet
and she doesn't think it's gross.'
Mark - age 6

'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if
you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'
Jessica - age 8
And the final
one
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor
was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old
gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.
When his Mother asked what he had said to
the neighbor, the little boy said,
'Nothing, I just
helped him cry'

So Cute Sock Yarn Baby Stuff

I went to Little Knits to get some Noro Silk Garden on sale...that's the yarn I made that rainbow crop sweater out of...and saw this yarn by a company I've been pining over. I'm just very cheep. But Little Knits has nice sales so I stop by periodically. The yarn is called Boo Fly Sock and I looked it up on Ravelry and found this...

I know Karen and my Mom have knitted baby stuff out of sock yarn...I love this! I just want a more gender non specific pattern right now, though...but I'd love to work with tiny needles.

Ravelry Olympics

The Uthando group is starting a team to make dolls during the Olympics. The dolls go to HIV kids.
If anyone is interested, checkout the group on the discussion board. The pattern is for knit and crochet.

Hybernating Objects

Jeeze Louise, I have so been there, Lynn. When Fitted Knits came out I tried doing the sweater on the cover.

Picture taken from christinamarie82's flickr
Maybe it was a poor choice of yarn (I used Jiffy by LionsBrand. Great yarn-but super fuzzy) but I ended up tearing it out from neck to waist three times before giving up. The entire ickyness was bundled up and is still hiding in the closet with my never, ever, ever to be finished hippy style hoodie (what was I thinking!).

Trying to complete old projects

I decided that it was time to complete some projects that I started last year. I finally just finish a blanket for Kelly's grandfather. I frogged it so much that I began to hate it and the color. I kept trying new edgings until I finally found one I liked. He will get it for Christmas this year. One gift down, a millions to go!!! :)

ChalkDust Knitters Giving Back

I posted this in my blog and feel it would be a good idea if we, as a group, would start making projects we could donate. We could make up little tags with our group name, find a hospital that would be receptive and once or twice a year deliver hats and bears. The Teddy bears are great for little kids to hug when they need it.
Both patterns are from DIY's Knitty Gritty.

Newborn Cap
This little cap is nice to have on the needles for times when you need a mindless knitting project. It is also good for traveling with.

This little cap is very easy and knits up fast.
Here is a link to the pattern Newborn Cap

This Teddy Bear looks difficult but is very simple to make.

It is all one piece from the head to the feet and has very little seaming.

This little cap by Barbara Feltner is seamless.
Lionbrand has a very cute teddy bear

Please comment on this idea.

Men who knit, Fleece Artist, and Little Knits

So I was talking about this guy who's blog my Mom has listed on her site...This Boy Knits. He's so cute! Too late for me:) The first yarn he has up there is Fleece Artist. I got two skeins from a line owned by Fleece Artist called Hand Maiden to make a wrap for my mother-in-law. I was so afraid to use them she obviously never got the wrap and they're not even wound. The colorways are so beautiful, and the one I got feels like you're raking your fingers through cool water...so delicate.

I got it from Little Knits. They pretty much have some kind of sale going on at all times. That's where I got my Noro Kureyon for pretty much half off (give or take change - not like I teach math or anything). I don't have pics of that, but when you go in I got the colorway all the way on top. I love Noro, but can only buy it on sale b/c it costs too damn much!:)

P.S.
I was having a hard time with the color of the links on the blog and was brain farting everywhere. Mr. Grimm Witch helped so, thank you!

New Site

I made this site so we can plan when we meet up and share stuff ( fiber arts or not fiber arts) with each other, especially if you don't have a blog. Send me your e-mail. Once you give me your e-mail, I can sign you up to post on this site. You can write about what you're making, tell people about nice patterns, give great links, suggest a day to get together, etc. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

When you e-mail me, include the nickname you'd like to use.

P.S.
I just love playing with all this crap!:)
